THE "DAY OF ATONEMENT" ALSO KNOWN AS "YOM HA KIPPURIM" (YOM KIPPUR) IS A HOLY DAY AND FAST. THIS DAY IS A GREAT DAY IN ISRAEL AS IT IS OUR TIME AS A NATION TO ATONE FOR OUR SINS. IT IS KEPT IN THE 10TH DAY OF THE 7TH MONTH(TISHRI) ON THE HEBREW CALENDAR.

 THE DAY OF ATONEMENT AND IT'S OBSERVANCE CAN BE FOUND IN LEVITICUS 23:27-32

 "Also on the tenth day of this seuenth moneth, there shalbe a day of atonement, it shalbe an holy conuocation vnto you, & ye shall afflict your soules, and offer an offering made by fire vnto the Lord.

28 And ye shall doe no worke in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you, before the Lord your God.

29 For whatsoeuer soule it bee that shall not bee afflicted in that same day, hee shall bee cut off from among his people.

30 And whatsoeuer soule it bee that doeth any worke in that same day, the same soule will I destroy from among his people.

31 Ye shall doe no maner of worke: it shall be a statute for euer throughout your generations, in all your dwellings.

32 It shalbe vnto you a Sabbath of rest, and yee shall afflict your soules in the ninth day of the moneth at Euen, from Euen vnto Euen shall ye celebrate your Sabbath."

YOU CAN ALSO READ ABOUT THE DAY OF ATONEMENT IN ACTS 27:9 {IN THIS VERSE THE DAY OF ATONEMENT IS CALLED THE "FAST"}

 "Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the Fast was now alreadie past, Paul admonished them,"

 

THIS FAST IS NOT AN OPTIONAL FAST. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR THE ENTIRE NATION OF ISRAEL. 

NOTE: THE PROPER WAY TO FAST IS AS FOLLOWS: NO EATING, NO DRINKING FROM EVEN TO EVEN.  DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN YOUR MOUTH AT ALL.

"Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish." Esther 4:16
